Doubt
The perfect mate for my imperfect phase Had once cried out to fold her in my heart, But chemist's nightmares will not let us choose To tame the threat'ning thunder, once we start. Our homeless hate has fouled too much of home In maddening malice, trading pains for pains. The demon's shadowed legions in us roam And feed the cheap malaise within our brains. If I could only shudder off my fears And calm you, as I search myself for calm, Our happiness could blot the bitter tears That now contrive to taint our lover's balm. For doubters, doubting loving's truthful breath Are doomed to dance with doubt 'til dressed for death.
