My Heartbeat Pauses, Lingering
My heartbeat pauses, lingering for its cue To reappear, yet nothing skittles forth With promise to ignite me bright and new In you. Now, I must meet a life, sans mirth, A life, sans worth -- but only for a space In time. I now know I need leave you free To friends and folly, full of fickle spice Less iced than acids left by you in me. For near a score of months, we set our sights To pure romance which language cound not match In Romance language -- now for naught. Your flights Defeat our time-bent 'tempts to love that much. My heart resigns to truth, and caustic life That aches and burns, my lone intended wife.
